Whether you prefer an alignment-based or vinyasa style classes practicing under the infrared panels can offer your yoga practice some amazing benefits, here are just a few.
- Stress reduction – we get it standing in a hot room whilst being told what to do by a total stranger might not sound like it reduces stress, but we can tell you first hand it does. Your life is already FULL of decisions and things “to do” – let us guide you through your yoga supporting your breath and your movement. Before too long, you will notice yourself focused, in the moment, and aware of your breath, something we do on auto-pilot most of the time.
- Safely introduces you to an increased range of movement – Notice we didn’t say flexibility? Whilst under the heat your muscles can lengthen a little further than normal when they are cold. This will most likely feel amazing, especially if you must be seated for long periods of time. But what we want you to more explore under the heat is stability. Finding the sthira – sukha (strength with fluidity and flexibility with stability) of your yoga.
- Improves your breathing habits – Most of us happily spend most of our day letting our breath be on auto-pilot, but when we step into the hot room we have no choice but to be conscious of our breath, without it, the postures feel harder, tighter, and impossible our feelings move towards stress, fear and wanting to stop – but when we breathe we remain calm, we can think clearly and we can choose where our yoga needs to be for the day. It doesn’t matter if you do all the postures or just a few of them when you come to your mat – but we can assure you the ones you don’t hold your breath in will feel the best.
- Better Sleep – Yes Please! Ok so we don’t want everyone to treat their yoga as a workout – but more as a “work-in”, with plenty of space offered for stillness and contemplation, for self-inquiry, and hopefully self-acceptance. In addition to this, the dynamic nature of the hot room practice can also give rise to letting your body recover and rest. Finish your hot class, hydrate, nourish, and pop on your pyjamas and it’s off to the land of nod before you can say “I love hot yoga”.
