We have all heard about the benefits of meditation and most of us at least have an app on our phones to help us make the commitment to start. Most of us try to give it a go but just end up sitting there with our own personal evil best friend (our brain) telling us what we should be doing instead or how to fixate on the one thing that is driving us nuts at the moment – so what do we do? We get up and keep moving, with the vague promise that we will try again later, “when we are not so busy”. But what if we could make it a little bit easier? Instead of everyday and by yourself, you could opt in once a month and be supported with guidance and like-minded people who just want the opportunity to find some quite time as well. If we have not convinced you already, check out some more benefits below.
- Better sleep – we can all use that, between all the jobs, responsibilities, screen time and stress of life, sleep can sometime evade us, or at least not be as great a quality as we would like. But with taking intentional moments of stillness to slow down the mind and focus on your breath, you will be counting sheep, butterflies, baby sloths or any animal of choice before you know it and off to zzzzzzzzzz town.
- Gives you the skills to respond rather than react – what do we mean? When we react to a situation, conversation or event it is usually from a place of emotion and is subjective to our experience and the filter of our values and beliefs, but when we can take a moment to breathe and reset first, we get the opportunity to respond from a much more objective place and maybe even get some insight from another perspective.
- Carving out some you time – Yes we mean YOU!!!! Not vegged out in front of the telly time but time to be with like minded people and practice slowing down, for appreciating the little wins you have had recently and to notice how incredibly awesome you are.
